Slocan

Slocan

Following massive silver strikes, Slocan (population of 195, though the total population of the Slocan Valley (including New Denver, Silverton and Slocan and Regional District of Central Kootenay) totals 5,275), was founded at the lower end of the Slocan Lake, south of New Denver in 1892, incorporated as a city in June 1901 and then reverted to village status in June 1958. Once bustling with 12 hotels in 1900, just 3 remained by 1920 once the boom had come to an end.
